Hi All,

In September 2005, I had to change QRA. After many years of absence from the air, I had to come back. I will tell you how my installation was built. With my brother (14FR937) we tought a long time on this installation. When I say installation, I am referring to aerial but also transceiver. (And any and all)

I started therefore from zero. The investment was quite big. Anyway, it does not mean that when you love ...

We needed to choose a good aerial, capable of great transmission and reception. A mythical aerial ... Of all the world dream!

If I had listened to my brother, we would be left in terrible delusions. My brother is a fan of stacked antennas.

Francois then took me on the internet to see a little ... direction GB Antennas ... Just that.

And voila he shows me an 8 elements Quad (14 meters BOOM). My brother likes big guns. But good anyway ... I calm him a bit and we (I) decide to abandon this huge idea. We will therefore take a look at CUBEX. To tell you the idea of quad liked me well, I needed to find just the right size.

After a lot of discussions, we fall agree on a QUAD CUBEX 6 elements.

Neither one, nor two, an order is placed at www.radio33.com. I take this opportunity to buy 100 meters of FOAM Coax cable.

Now that the antenna was chosen, it was necessary to consider a tower.

To support such a huge an antenna, I needed a tower worthy of the name. François already has his idea. He shows me the De Kerf web site.

The height of the tower was not yet decided. I still wanted something at least 12 meters tall. My QRA located not far from the sea, I needed something very resistant over time. Francois, in his great skill, quickly makes me extolling the benefits of aluminum. (= salt air corrosion)

After discussions and negotiations with the manufacturer (De Kerf), we fall of agreement and finally I opt for a tower 3 X 8 meters (21 meters real) aluminum telescopic tilt to 2 M2 ... The whole course, heightened an arrow aluminium 6 meters ...

It is clear that before any purchase, I hastened to make the necessary demarches to this type of installation ...

We are now at the end of June 2008, everything is ok, and the order is sent.

Fifteen days later, on July 6 morning, after having recovered the chair of the tower, go was made to dig the hole that would accommodate the massive concrete. The standard for this type of tower is 6 cubic meters (2.55 x 2.55 x 0.90) ...

With a crane and the help of some friends, the hole was formed, scrapped.

Well it's true, I admit that we may have seen a few grand ... 3 meters on the final 3, the depth is 1.30 metres or just over 11 m3 concrete ...

The chair now positioned, would have to wait until the following Tuesday to be buried in concrete.

For the record, threaded rods that will tighten the tower on the ground are 30mm in diameter, and nuts to shake it all are 46 mm !
Here is the key that will serve a tightening the nuts fixing pylon. Impressive ... No?

Anyway, this is the result that counts and we must take it because Christine, my wife would not see an antenna of this size through the back cover of our house (it was not the same humour) ...

The delivery of the famous tower is scheduled on August 16, 2008. The manufacturer has asked me to ask help to 10 mens or a gear. A gear will be present. The concrete, meanwhile, will have had time to dry properly.

Ah yes I forgot! A scabbard had previously been buried (the house) to pass all necessary cables. (not mad wasp) ...
To be continued ...
